Drone restrictions lifted in Reno – LAANC

Drone restrictions lifted in Reno – LAANC

Affordable aerial mapping is now available in Reno! The FAA has launched its long anticipated Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) system at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO). What this means for you is that we can start saying yes to your mapping requests in Reno!

Below are two maps of Reno showing where drones could be flown commercially:

Reno before LAANC

Reno after LAANC

after LAANC

Over the past year, we’ve received many requests for mapping in the city. Unfortunately we had to turn many of those requests down because flying drones commercially in the red zones shown above and to the left meant waiting upwards of 90 days for a waiver from the FAA to come through. Needless to say, that lead time of 90 days was prohibitive for most commercial applications. LAANC now allows immediate approval to fly in those areas shown in green above and to the right. With this new LAANC system, we can start saying yes to offering you fast and affordable aerial mapping with drones in the Reno area.
